Singha Park
Singha Park, Boon Rawd Farm, is said to be the largest agricultural tourism destination in the country. Sprawling over 3,000 acres of grassland, gardens, lakes, exhibits, a zoo, restaurants, activities and festival venues. This is an outdoor attraction mainly, which is very suitable for families, along with individuals of all ages.
Situated to the south of the city, this attraction has much to offer. You can rent bicycles on site and ride around in safety to take in all the scenery. Drive to some of the attractions or I recommend you take the official bus tour ฿100/$3 to each place of interest, a 2 hour introduction to all on offer within the park. Thereafter, make alternative plans to revisit places of personal interest at your own leisure.
Many events are conducted here. Evenings of music, traditional and modern Thai plus a host of international celebrities. Sports events for professionals and amateurs to partake in or just watch. The International Balloon Festival is extremely popular in February each year. An evening event, spectacular close contact with the balloons, especially when lighten up in the night sky. There is food and refreshments widely available at any of the events. Local crafts are on offer to cater for every budget. Last year I rode a scooter to get here, traffic jams were on a Bangkok level leading up to the park. Inside, the parking was very well organised.
Daily activities include; ziplining, rock climbing, an adventure rope course or visit the zoo (ever seen a giraffe in Thailand?). A first class restaurant with traditional Thai northern and international menus is inexpensive and in my opinion, delicious. The restaurant sits on top of a hill with views across the tea plantation and the lake, stunning view. Alternatively, coffee, cakes and snacks are available at the entrance from the various cafes. Opposite the site, there are many street food and local Thai food outlets to enjoy. These are not an official part of the complex however.
Yes, Singha Park is owned by the Singha Brewery. This is not promoted at the park, beer is however available from the restaurant and other outlets. Singha sponsors Chiang Rai United Football Club, this year the LEO Beer (a subsidiary of Singha) logo adorns their shirts.
Allow for a good half day to enjoy all the park has to offer, probably longer to see it all. Get there by taxi is suggested, busses do run from the city center but no knowledge of Thai language is an obstacle. Parking for cars is plentiful and no charges. There is no dress code for this attraction, good walking shoes and sun protection is recommended. Entrance is free and opening hours are 09.00-17.00, longer when there is a special event on.
